aka beta-caryophyllene / BCP
Caryophyllene is a major cannabis terpene with a peppery, spicy, woody aroma. It is unique among terpenes in that it directly binds to CB2 cannabinoid receptors, behaving more like a cannabinoid than a typical terpene. Strains rich in caryophyllene (GMO, OG Kush, Original Glue) are often associated with a heavier, body-leaning effect profile.
Example: The caryophyllene-dominant exhale on this GMO is unmistakable.
Etymology: Named for the clove tree (genus Caryophyllus, now Syzygium), where it was first isolated.
