THCA

aka tetrahydrocannabinolic acid

THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is the non-psychoactive acidic precursor to THC found in raw, unheated cannabis flower. THCA does not produce a high on its own — it must be decarboxylated (heated) to convert to THC, which is psychoactive. Hemp-derived THCA flower is federally legal as long as Delta-9 THC stays below 0.3% by dry weight.

Example: Hemp THCA flower delivers a THC-equivalent experience after combustion converts THCA to THC.

Etymology: Standard organic chemistry naming convention.
