Microbial Contamination

aka microbials

Microbial contamination is the presence of bacteria, mold, mildew, or yeast above state-defined limits in cannabis flower or concentrate. Microbial testing is part of any reputable COA and includes total yeast and mold (TYM), aspergillus species, E. coli, and salmonella. A failed microbial test is the most common reason a hemp batch is recalled or pulled.

Example: Always check for microbial contamination on the COA before you smoke a fresh batch.

Etymology: Standard food-safety vocabulary; applied to cannabis in state-mandated testing rounds.
